1950 Union Oil Ad Replica Poster- Autographed by Alex Xydias
What a surprise! Union Oil Company called in the winter of 1950 to
ask if they could use the SO-CAL Speed Shop Spl. in a major advertising
campaign. Wow! This was the first time a hot rod was used in an ad
promoting a large company’s product. It was great publicity for SO-CAL!
They sent a crew and a famous model out to the shop to take pictures
that an artist would depict Dean and I getting our trophy at Bonneville.
We made sure to wear our helmets that Union Oil gave everyone at the
first meet in 1949. As they say it was very “cool”.
