Product Description
This poster was designed to honor the currently finished Spencer2 Roadster.
The Story In the spring of 95 hot rod icon Doane Spencer, most notably known for his Pebble Beach winning black Deuce hiboy roadster and 55 T-bird supercar, decided to build a second Deuce hiboy for good friend Darrell Brunn. He would use, in part, the extra set of hand-made components he had stashed after completing the T-Bird.
Unfortunately, Doane passed away on September 27, 1995 and the second hiboy project was never completed. Brunn eventually took the roadster home and it went into storage.
Ten years later Kirk F. White purchased the project (affectionately known as Spencer²) from Brunn and in October of 05 Kirk sold the project to Dennis Higginbotham. Finally the car had found a home.
Dennis commissioned the SO-CAL Speed Shop team to finish the car in spirit of the original Spencer design. Lead by shop foreman Ryan Reed, and working closely with Higginbotham and White, the SO-CAL team would soon discover the incredible level of engineering innovation that made Spencer the legend he is.
Doane, always suspicious of off the shelf parts, fabricated everything himself. The hand crafted components, along with Doanes astonishing ingenuity, are the key elements of this outstanding roadster.
Spencer² features an original 32 Ford body and frame. Almost every component, including the wheel centers, rear end housing, uprights and calipers are one-off Spencer designs. Additional Spencer modifications include the forged/fabricated chassis components and a highly modified top loader Ford 4-speed overdrive transmission.
The sensational engine is a one off Roush prepared 289 small block Ford V-8.
The Deuce roadster you are looking at today is what Doanes first hiboy may well have looked like if he had not stopped working on it when the T-Bird came into his life.
Incredibly, before Doane passed away he asked Brunn to make sure that the car would someday be displayed at the Grand National Roadster Show. Well, thanks to Dennis Higginbotham, and the aforementioned team, Doane gets his wish and we are proud to present the reality of Spencer².
